Terms and scores, in plain words
- Alpha score
- How strong the latest quarter was compared with this company's usual quarter, from 0 to 100.Also called Alpha QoQ. It's about the business, not the share price.
- Score bands
- 0–30 Bad, 30–45 Poor, 45–65 Average, 65–89 Good, 90–100 Excellent.The same bands apply to the Alpha, trailing-year, 3-year and sector scores.
- TTM (trailing year)
- The last 12 months, or four quarters.The TTM score says how good or bad the company has been over its last four quarters.
- 3Y score
- How the company is doing now compared with three years ago.
- Sector rank / sector score
- How the company is doing against the average company in its sector.
- Uptrend
- Both the short-term and long-term bias support a rising price.
- Weak uptrend
- The price has only just started rising; the long-term bias isn't bullish yet, so it can still reverse.
- Downtrend
- The rising bias has faded; the price is likely to move sideways or down.
- Running
- How far the price has moved since the current trend started.
- Health
- How far the price has moved from its best buying area.Healthy: within 2%. Strong: 2–5% above. Extended: 15% or more above and likely to pull back. Struggling: dipping below the buying level. Broken: sellers have pushed it below the buying range.
- Support
- A price level where falls have stopped before, because buyers stepped in.Minor support is the nearer, smaller level; major support is the stronger one below it.
- Liquidity
- How easily a share trades. The Screener's filter means at least 10,000 shares a day on average over 30 days.
- Momentum
- Stocks whose weekly momentum is rising and that aren't in a downtrend.
- High conviction
- Companies whose last results scored 90 or more on the Alpha score.
- Sector regime
- How a sector is doing against the KSE-100: Leading, Improving, Weakening or Lagging.Leading: clearly ahead. Improving: starting to gain strength. Weakening: losing strength. Lagging: clearly behind.
- Fair value
- AlphaGen's estimate of what a share is worth, in bear, base and bull cases.
- Upside
- The gap between today's price and AlphaGen's fair value.
- P/E
- The share price compared with the profit per share. Lower means you pay less for each rupee of profit.
- Book closure
- The dates that decide who gets a dividend: shareholders on the register when it starts qualify.
- Last day to hold
- The last day to own a share and still get its dividend: two working days before the book closure starts.
- vs KSE 100
- Your return compared with the KSE-100 index over the same time.
- Realised
- Profit or loss you've already taken by selling.
- Risky (weekly email)
- A holding with a trailing-year score below 40 that is also in a downtrend.
